Quantization in black hole backgrounds

چکیده

Quantum field theory in a semiclassical background can be derived as an approximation to quantum gravity from a weak-coupling expansion in the inverse Planck mass. Such an expansion is studied for evolution on “nice-slices” in the spacetime describing a black hole of mass M. Arguments for a breakdown of this expansion are presented, due to significant gravitational coupling between fluctuations, which is consistent with the statement that existing calculations of information loss in black holes are not reliable. For a given fluctuation, the coupling to subsequent fluctuations becomes of order unity by a time of order M. Lack of a systematic derivation of the weakly-coupled/semiclassical approximation would indicate a role for the non-perturbative dynamics of gravity, and possibly for the proposal that such dynamics has an essentially non-local quality. ⋆ Email address: [email protected]

Duality Symmetric Quantization of Superstring

A general covariant quantization of superparticle, Green-Schwarz superstring and a supermembrane with manifest supersymmetry and duality symmetry is proposed. This quantization provides a natural quantum mechanical description of curved BPStype backgrounds related to the ultra-short supersymmetry multiplets. Half-size commuting and anticommuting Killing spinors admitted by such backgrounds in q...

Canonical quantization of local field theories in classical black hole spacetimes with a single horizon leads to a particle number density with a thermal distribution in equilibrium at the Hawking temperature. A complete treatment including non-local quantum gravity effects has shown however that the full " thermal vacuum " of the theory is the false vacuum. In this work, we find the true vacuu...

Bohr’s Semiclassical Model of the Black Hole Thermodynamics

We propose a simple procedure for evaluating the main attributes of a Schwarzschild’s black hole: Bekenstein-Hawking entropy, Hawking temperature and Bekenstein’s quantization of the surface area. We make use of the condition that the circumference of a great circle on the black hole horizon contains finite and whole number of the corresponding reduced Compton’s wavelength. It is essentially an...

U duality, D-branes, and black hole emission rates: Agreements and disagreements

An expression for the spacetime absorption coefficient of a scalar field in a five dimensional, near extremal black hole background is derived, which has the same form as that presented by Maldacena and Strominger, but is valid over a larger, U-duality invariant region of parameter space and in general disagrees with the corresponding D-brane result. We develop an argument, based on D-brane the...

Energy Distribution in 2d Stringy Black Hole Backgrounds

We utilize Møller’s and Einstein’s energy-momentum complexes in order to explicitly evaluate the energy distributions associated with the two-dimensional “Schwarzschild” and “Reissner-Nordström” black hole backgrounds. While Møller’s prescription provides meaningful physical results, Einstein’s prescription fails to do so in the aforementioned gravitational backgrounds. These results hold for a...
